Organizational Communications Analysis Women’s Resource Center at Norman, Oklahoma

The Women’s Resource Center was initially begun in 1973 and 1974 throughout the winter. It was initially begun by an alumni understudy who needed to help ladies who were experiencing significant change focuses in the life. This association couldn't work without viable correspondence and to examine the correspondence systems of the association can give supportive data that could additionally improve them. This incorporated those ladies who were searching for work just as ladies who needed to come back to class. Since its opening the inside has created numerous projects and administrations (â€Å"History.. † 1). There are numerous projects accessible at the Women’s Resource Center and these incorporate WRC Victims of Domestic Violence Shelter (giving safe impermanent lodging to survivors of abusive behavior at home and their kids); Rape Response Team (prepared volunteers who are accessible to meet with assault casualties at the ER); directing (specific for survivors of rape or residential maltreatment); WRC Education Program (offers staff that talk in an assortment of spots for about subjects managing abusive behavior at home, date assault, solid connections and different points); Children’s Program (bunches that attention on letting kids express their feelings and emotions); Court Advocacy (court backers to help ladies through the lawful framework); and WRC Cells (a program to offer casualties mobile phones at no expense if there should be an occurrence of a crisis) (â€Å"Programs.. † 1-2). There are additionally some preparation workshops. The principle one is SANE (S exual Assault Nurse Examiner) Volunteer Training, a particular preparing for medical caretakers to figure out how to do scientific assault test units (â€Å"Training†¦Ã¢â‚¬ 1). Compelling correspondence is a unique little something that are essential to how well an association is run. The Women’s Resource Center in Norman, Oklahoma has a great deal of qualities in their correspondences. They work admirably of preparing both their staff and their volunteers. They work with their staff on issues about correspondences and realizing when to talk and when to have the option to permit others to talk as they are managing individuals in troublesome circumstances. They figure out how to successfully impart for the circumstances that they are in where there is a high hazard to the ladies that they are conversing with. This implies there is a great deal of preparing put into the possibility of correspondences for this association. Their primary quality in correspondence is the general capacity to discuss adequately with the individuals who are in a predicament. The explanation that this works so well is that there is a lot of things in the correspondence procedure (Lee 2). Realizing the correspondence procedure can extraordinarily help how interchanges are for individuals. As indicated by Lass well’s model of correspondence there should be an impact for the correspondence to happen. This is stating that what is being imparted necessities to have a point and a course. In this correspondence procedure the association is attempting to call attention to that ladies merit regard and confidence (Lee 3). The possibility of viable correspondence for change is something that this association progresses nicely. The association has made a great deal of changes in the past both the long haul past and the ongoing past. These progressions are viably imparted if three significant parts are accessible in the system. This examination by Larkin and Larkin expressed: â€Å"Communicate just realities; quit conveying esteems. Convey eye to eye; don't depend on recordings, distributions or enormous scope gatherings. What's more, target cutting edge bosses; don't let officials acquaint the change with bleeding edge representatives. † This is a case of the successful things that Women’s Resource Center imparts as they utilize a technique that shows that each level learns new things (Cheney 330). A portion of the negative things that are done at the Women’s Resource Center with correspondences are that the trainings are not accessible to the general population for data. They do offer some preparation workshops however at long last the trainings are not accessible as a program on the extreme level. The correspondence procedure isn't too done in promotion or getting the word out about the projects that are accessible. Another region that shows shortcoming in correspondence is the association. There is certifiably not a solid association in this organization and there are a wide range of individuals chipping in as well as working for the office. A portion of the territories that could utilize improvement incorporate the zones of correspondence about the association and all through the associations volunteers and representatives. This implying they all could utilize better correspondence to convey between each other. The thought as expressed in a similar report as above is that there is now and again little validity to the qualities could be one of the correspondence issues here as it would be an issue in imparting and that the upper administration and top managerial staff have not had an extremely clear vision with the Women’s Resource Center the same number of things have changed about their primary qualities and thoughts since the production of the middle which could create some turmoil (Cheney 330-333). A second territory that has messed some up with correspondences in the association has been an absence of utilized assets. This implies there are a ton of volunteers who probably won't have indistinguishable gauges to imparting needs from ordinary full time or even low maintenance workers would have. So as to viably improve these regions there would need to be a framework set up which would allow the two volunteers and workers to communicate their sentiments and thoughts without the dread of being aggrieved and with the possibility that any individual who is included has a supposition that issues. The possibility that correspondence is a major piece of authority and how well initiative runs depends on the leader’s capacity to impart successfully. For this situation this would be a territory for required improvement (Cheney 205-206). There are numerous zones where upgrades could be made in the correspondence forms with the Women’s Resource Center. A portion of these territories are that the administration could be give better help to the entirety of the volunteers and representatives the same. Something else that could happen is that the individuals who are included would have the option to voice their conclusions and give a case for care. They would have the option to viably convey their necessities in a procedure that would be pre-created by the board as it would be something that they could use all the time. This implies they would have the option to more readily deal with their correspondences needs by viably figuring out how to determine issues and examine issues with legitimate interchanges. The hypothesis of Schramm on correspondence and the possibility that covering limits and encounters make for simpler interchanges is key in the field and administrations that the Women’s Resource Center is giving. It is in this procedure that these laborers and volunteers would have the option to discuss better with the customer base dependent on whether they had the equivalent or comparable encounters from before (Lee 3-4). The qualities and shortcomings for this association were evident when perusing the official statements and other data accessible about the association. Likewise the essayist watched the correspondence viewpoints while working for the association before coming back to graduate school. This was seen through being a piece of the organization’s preparing and programs. It was additionally seen through understanding data about the projects and how they are conveyed to people in general. Having the option to adequately convey is significant in the field of social work and for social help organizations. The one region where correspondence is all around done is between the staff and the casualties that come in for administrations as the preparation programs here are generally excellent. In this manner their primary quality is having the option to convey well to ladies in predicament. The Women’s Resource Center is an association that necessities to have better relational abilities all together than manage the issues that are being influenced all the time through their association as they promptly don't have the foggiest idea what is happening and in some cases are needing having the option to convey in an increasingly compelling way. One of the principle issues has been an absence of correspondences through the various volunteers and representatives and at long last it has been a reason for some correspondence holes. The primary concern that should be possible to improve the status of these things is for there to be a superior correspondences framework set up when all is said in done for the association. This implies the association would have better correspondence between the administration and the representatives and volunteers. A portion of these correspondence holes are what are causing the destruction for this association and are a portion of the main sources of the general clash that is experienced inside the association. There are continually going to be â€Å"inherent challenges† while talking about correspondence and working environment situations (Messersmith 1). At long last correspondence is significant in all everyday issues and when there is successful interchanges in certain regions it loans would like to the possibility that there could be powerful interchanges in every aspect of an association. While breaking down correspondences for the Women’s Resource Center it is no big surprise that there are a wide range of kinds of correspondence utilized and it is no big surprise that there are a few requirements for development. A large portion of the requirement for development falls on the general top managerial staff and their capacity to make an unmistakable arrangement for what they need and what is happening inside the association. Without this they can't offer back to the association what is required so as to be viable in their administration and different abilities. So what is required is for the association to deal with their having the option to impart better inside th

Maggie Simpson Thought That Anyone of HerEssay Topics Would Be a Good Choi

Maggie Simpson Thought That Anyone of HerEssay Topics Would Be a Good ChoiIn the essays published in a recent issue of Harvard Business Review, Maggie Simpson thought that anyone of her essay topics would be a good candidate for being a commercial. Her essay 'What Makes a Person Sell: Using the Essay As a Marketing Tool' reflected this concern. Ms. Simpson is not alone; many business professionals have expressed this worry over the past several years. Some customers or potential customers may not necessarily have a need to buy something when they read your essay topics. For example, if your essay focuses on a couple's appreciation for an antique car and you focus on how the couple drives it home from the garage, there is no guarantee that the person who buys the car will actually want to purchase it. Also, many customers may know about the couple's favorite car and may not want to drive that particular car. They may simply wish to look at the car to appreciate the beauty of it or perh aps drive the old car in.Ms. Simpson thought that any essay topics could be a good commercial. She wrote that her target audience included businesses, nonprofits, politicians, celebrities, writers, and celebrities. It would help if her topics were special occasions that the customer would want to reflect on later. This is especially true if they are something the customer can relate to on some level. The opportunity to write about a family member or someone close to the customer is also a great way to relate to the essay topic. However, she quickly found out that some of her essay topics were not very appealing to the honoree list. The list includes Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou, Bill Gates, and President Clinton. Ms. Simpson's essays were not exactly about these people. And, therefore, the honorees turned down her essay ideas. Perhaps it is not fair to lay all the blame on her for failing to choose the best essay topics. Some people simply don't have the talent or the time to write es say topics. Even so, this issue seems to show that some people need more support. The most important part of writing is finding the subject matter that is interesting and stirring enough to appeal to readers. When someone can find an interesting topic with a solution to their problem, it's a win-win situation. While Maggie Simpson had a little bit of a difficult time with her essay topics, there is still hope for those looking to write about their passions. If you write about a person's love of horses or their passion for their pets, you will find success. Whether you write about the problem of the poor, sick, or elderly, a topic that is true to the heart is the best way to attract potential customers and gain awards. With the advances in technology, writing about your passion is easier than ever. The Internet offers more opportunities than ever before. There are sites like YouTube that allow everyone to make a video about almost anything. If you decide to upload a video on YouTube ab out your pet, the video can reach millions of viewers with a simple click of the mouse. If you write about a topic that interests you, there is no limit to the number of people who can benefit from reading about your essay topics. For those who are not adept at writing, you can write about a project that needs to be done. Or, even if you are good at writing, you can simply take on the challenge of writing about your passion.

Godly Education Essay - 1537 Words

â€Å"Through wisdom a house is builded; and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.† Proverbs 24:3, 4 Education is vital in life. If we did not have education, no one would be able to do anything challenging with his or her minds, unless trained by experience. This is what Plato knew thousands of years ago. He knew education produced a balance and harmony of character. This education model is not seen in public education, except in the classical model, which borrowed many of his concepts. This kind of education, however, sought to bring out political men of who were capable to fight. As Christians, however, we should always seek in our education to glorify God,†¦show more content†¦Thus, he says, â€Å"We shall persuade mothers and nurses to tell our chosen stories to their children and by means of them to mold their minds and characters, which are more important then their bodies.† Plato goes on from the content to form. He calls poetry â€Å"direct speech† because the poet or narrator puts himself in the position of the character speaking, in thinking his t houghts and feeling his feelings. Plato firmly objects to this method. In Greek culture, it was the norm for a Greek student, when reciting Homer, to throw himself into the story, delivering the speeches with the tones and jesters of an actor. In this way, Plato was preoccupied with the mortal and theological aspects of poets because from them the ordinary Greek man was expected to acquire his moral and theological notions. Plato solves this dilemma by saying, â€Å"If they (children) do take part in dramatic or other presentations, they must from their earliest years act the part only of characters suitable to them-men of courage, self-control, piety, freedom of spirit and similar qualities.† Plato points out that music, of the Greek culture represents the life of the listener. He states that music is the basis used primarily in the teaching of harmony and discipline. Plato goes on to say, parents should instill good character qualities, since children are easily impressed. I Was A True American - 1215 Words

â€Å"Mom, why is she so dark like fillipino if she’s korean like me?†, â€Å"I thought asians were suppose to be smart†, â€Å"Since your last name is Kim are you related to Kim Jong Un?†. These were some of the comments I’ve heard growing up in, my whole life. Not just from America where people see me not as a true American but also from Korea, where there is no ethnicity difference. Growing up, I learned to understand it was because I looked different and racism is a concept that is inevitable, but the summer of seventh grade I visited Korea, it changed everything. It had been a while since I last visited Korea, I had been so young I could not remember anything. But when I went that summer when I was older, I was shocked. In a land where I thought I belonged to with my race, was doing the opposite of what I had to learn to overcome in America. In a place where I thought I looked the same still had reasons to accept me. Even though I was the same race as the people there, I still wasn’t good enough. My skin was to dark, I was too big, my face was too round, and I didn’t look ‘asian’. Racism had been consistently plaguing by my side since the beginning. I realized still a bit surprise and a tad offended, but I thought, I’m not living here in Korea anyways so why worry? Audit Doctrine of Privity and Case Study - 2437 Words

Doctrine of Privity Doctrine of privity of a contract dictates that only parties to a contract will have rights or obligations arising under a contract to hinder the imposition of burdens on and the granting of contractually enforceable rights to third parties. The doctrine constitutes a barrier to freedom of contract that can frustrate the intention of the parties by not allowing them to confer mutually advantageous benefits on third parties, or lead to negative outcomes such as unjust enrichment and the prevention of third parties from justifiably vindicating their rights under the main contract. Is Judaism composed of many small religions or o Essay Example For Students

Is Judaism composed of many small religions or o Essay ne underlying religion? Judaism or Judaisms? It has been argued that Judaism can be seen not only as a single religion, but as a group of similar religions. It has also been pointed-out that through all the trials and tribulations that Judaism has suffered through, that there have been common themes that have proven omni-pervasive. Any institution with roots as ancient and varied as the religion of the Jews is bound to have a few variations, especially when most of its history takes place in the political and theological hot spot of the Middle East. In this discussion, many facets of Judaism will be examined, primarily in the three temporal subdivisions labeled the Tribal / Pre-Monarchy Period, the Divided Monarchy, and the Hasmonean / Maccabean and Roman Era. Among all the time periods where the religion has been split, these three seem to be the most representative of the forces responsible. As for a common thread seen throughout all Judiasms, the area of focus here is the place associated with the religion : Jerusalem. This topic will be covered in detail first, and then the multiple Judaism arguments will be presented. In this way, it is possible to keep a common focus in mind when reading about all the other situations in which the religion has found itself. A brief conclusion follows the discussion. A Place to Call Home No other religion has ever been so attached to its birthplace as Judaism. Perhaps this is because Jews have been exiled and restricted from this place for most of their history. Jerusalem is not only home to Judaism, but to the Muslim and Christian religions as well. Historically this has made it quite a busy place for the various groups. Jerusalem is where the temple of the Jews once stood; the only place on the whole Earth where one could leave the confines of day to day life and get closer to God. In 586 BCE when the temple was destroyed, no Jew would have denied Jerusalem as being the geographic center of the religion. From that point on, the Jewish people have migrated around the world, but not one of them forgets the fact that Jerusalem is where it all began. It is truly a sacred place, and helps to define what Judaism means to many people; a common thread to run through all the various splinters of the religion and help hold them together. Even today, as the Jewish people have their precious Jerusalem back (through the help of other nations and their politics) there is great conflict and emotion surrounding it. Other nations and people in the area feel that they should be in control of the renowned city, and the Jews deny fervently any attempt to wrestle it from their occupation. It is true that there is no temple in Jeruslaem today, nor are all the Jews in the world rushing to get back there. But it is apparent that the city represents more to the religion of Judaism than a mere place to live and work. The city of Jerusalem is a spiritual epicenter, and throughout Judaisms long and varied history, this single fact has never changed. Tribal / Pre-Monarchy Judaisms roots lie far back in the beginnings of recorded history. The religion did not spring into existence exactly as it is known today, rather it was pushed and prodded by various environmental factors along the way. One of the first major influences on the religion was the Canaanite nation. Various theories exist as to how and when the people that would later be called Jews entered into this civilization. But regardless of how they ultimately got there, these pioneers of the new faith were subjected to many of the ideas and prejudices of the time. Any new society that finds itself in an existing social situation, can do no more than to try and integrate into that framework. And this is exactly what the Jews did. Macbeth vs Hamlet Essay The Jewish civil war was against the extreme Hellenizers (people who tended toward utter reason in their beliefs) and the moderate Hellenizers (people who can see things rationally, but believe there are more items to consider than this ex. the Maccabean family, who became the Hasmonean kings). So right away, it is apparent that the ideas that the Greeks introduced into Jewish culture have acted as time-bombs of social memes, and have created a major split in the religion. When the violence of the war has subsided, the moderate Hellenizers have won (everything in moderation!) and rule for a short time, until the Roman empire attacks and throws even more kinks into the Jewish society. When the Romans take over, the Hasmonean kings are left in place as puppet kings, which ultimately forces the general population to question their governing body. When the Romans destroy the temple in Jerusalem, it is made painfully clear that some changes are going to be made. Most obvious, the priests suddenly have no major role in the religion. Their primary purpose had been to tend to the sacrificing of animals, and since it is illegal to sacrifice an animal outside the temple, the priests were in an unsettling position. As can be seen in countless other examples, politics and religion are invariably tied, and people began practicing their own flavors of Judaism after their civilization had been so radically altered. At this point in history, there is really no solid rule to prevent such splits, and for a time a mixed form of Judaism with many varieties flourishes. No one was sure what to do once the heart of Judaism (the temple) had been destroyed, but it soon became apparent that an appealing option was arising. Two major social groups of the time period were vying for power. The first group, the Saducees were associated with the displaced Hasmonean kings. The second group, the Pharisees, had an idea that would help work around the tragic destruction of the temple. People were split, once again. They could stay with the traditional Saducees (who had the political power, believed in only written Torah, and did not subscribe to resurrection basically a conservative view), or they could side with the newcomers, the Pharisees (who had religious power, believed in both the written and the oral Torah, and believed in resurrection) and hope to preserve their Jewish heritage by worshiping outside of the temple, in their everyday life. It was not a hard decision, and the Pharisees eventually gained power, leading the Jewish religion into its next phase of Rabbinic Judaism. It is apparent that in each of the three time periods discussed above that many factions of the same religion were active. Competing philosophies, outside political forces, and geographic isolation are among the most obvious of the dividing forces. However many other influences pound each and every day on a given social institution, subtly forming it and changing it into something it was not. For this reason, the answer to the debate whether Judaism is a single, or multiple religion(s) is an obvious one, depending upon how you choose to look at it. Every religion has many pieces, but as long as there are a few constants (such as the birthplace, the language, literature, etc) it is possible to view the whole as a single force, and still acknowledge variations that will inevitably spring-up.

Prefect and the duties Essay Example

Prefect and the duties Paper I have chosen to do my piece of coursework on the school based activity of being a prefect and the duties that come with it. I chose to do this activity because its something I know will eventually make a difference to the school itself, be it little or big, and the school community as a whole. I also found that this activity was quite interesting, as something new happened everyday whether it is while completing duties or just a normal day. When I was planning this activity I had to think about how I would deal with certain people who didnt pay any attention to prefects. I also thought about how I would remember to turn up every Wednesday and Friday. However, most importantly I had to plan how to keep my concentration on doing my best. When I first started this activity there were some problems to overcome, these included the people who would not show any respect or attention to what I was doing and how they would be one to cause more problems for my allocated teacher and myself to deal with. We will write a custom essay sample on Prefect and the duties specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Prefect and the duties specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Prefect and the duties specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer I was able to sort these problems out though because the teachers understood about what could happen and that if there were a certain pupil who was rude or didnt listen they would explain to them the purpose of prefects. If problems persisted with a pupil against a prefect, senior staff got involved to sort the problem out quickly and quietly. I still carry on doing this activity today and so far have done activities such as minding that people behave around the school site, helping the teachers at break and lunch and setting an example to the younger pupils to follow. There were other people involved in this activity and they had to do the same kind of thing with their allocated teacher. All of the prefects agreed to work as a team at the beginning in a prefect assembly. We agreed that we would achieve more if we were as a unit and done our very best. Our head teacher spoke to us all as a team and explained what we would be doing and how it helped the school. A typical day for myself is that I would set an example from the very moment I step out of my house to my journey to school, and till the end of the day when I get home. This would be making sure I am smartly dressed, proud of what I was doing and not causing any problems. Once I enter the school grounds, I would make sure that I remained the same positive person and to make sure I behave in a way that others should. When its my time to do a duty with the teacher, I meet up with them in the classroom and go to wherever we need to together, we then discuss what we are going to do, for example, in the school canteen, I will stay at one end of the room making sure everyone is doing everything they should, and the teacher will be at the other end controlling queues and general behaviour problems. If there was someone not doing as they should, I would quietly ask them to do the right thing, and if they continue doing wrong, I would either ask them to talk with the teacher or ask the teacher to go to them. The majority of the time, most pupils are well behaved and dont cause any big problems to deal with. At the end of the break I would make sure the canteen is tidy and ready for use again. After I have finished this duty, I would carry on my school day as when I first come in to school. People benefited from this activity because they learn they could not get away with trying to rebel against the teachers or prefects. The whole school community also benefited because it did make a small number of pupils feel safer that there was a team to sort out any problems like fighting or bullying. It also benefited the younger pupils because they had someone to look up to and follow. If I had to be involved in this activity in the future I would try and changed certain pupils attitudes towards the prefect team. I would also like to see prefects have more power to giving detentions with a good reason, and if it was necessary, they could enforce further punishment. I also thing prefects should have more rewards for working hard and trying to make the school a better place.

buy custom Systems Development Life Cycle essay

buy custom Systems Development Life Cycle essay The term Systems Development is refers to the creation of new information software or alteration of existing information software, models and the methodologies that are used to develop the software(Blanchard Fabrycky, 2006). It is a process that passes through various stages of development. There are seven main phases of systems development process. Planning Phase This is the phase that is regarded by most systems developers as the first phase of systems development. This phase is sometimes referred to as the feasibility study phase. It is characterized by the determination of organizational goals in relation to the system that is being developed. During this phase, the systems developers allocate the budgetary requirements and time schedule for the project. Other requirements for the project such as equipment and personnel are also established and put in place. A quick ex ante evaluation is also done at this stage to establish the likelihood of the success of the success of the project. Other factors that are considered by an organization during this phase is the knowledge of the employees and their ability to use the new system. If the employees are not able to use the new system then the organization should examine their ability learn new skills at this phase. System Analysis Phase Systems Design Phase This phase is important in the systems development cycle because it is characterized by documentations which are used in the succeeding phases as reference. The desired feature and operation are described exhaustively. This description involves outlining each component of the system including its nature and how it is going to contribute towards achieving the goals of the system being developed. The components may include screen layouts, business rules, process diagrams and other documentation. Implementation Phase This is the most technical phase of systems development cycle. It is during this phase that the real coding of the system takes place. The knowledge of high level programing languages such as java, and Pascalisdirely needed in this phase. In addition there should be high level of competency and experience of systems development among the technical team at this phase in order to ensure confidence in the outcome (Beynon, 2009). Integraation and Testing Phase In this phase, the different components and features of the components are assembled together and tested to determine if they can really work. Evaluation is done to establish changes, bugs and errors that may have occurred accidentally. Corrections are then made. Acceptance and Installation Phase This phase appears to be the last stage of the initial development of the software. The software is put in actual use at this stage. The actual business activity is carried out using the software and the intended organizational goals are achieved. Maintenance Phase This very last phase of systems development cycle is probably not the last one. It is the most important phase since it continues throughout the lifetime of the software unlike the other phases which takes short periods of time. It involves administration of adjustments such as changes, additions and corrections that makes the system more adaptable and efficient in its functions (Cummings, 2006). The phases of systems development are not as distinct as they appear in this essay. These phases usually overlap and sometimes the activities that are expected to be done in one phase may be done in a preceding or subsequent phase. At some point it might be required that all the phases be repeated again thus the name cycle (Blanchard Fabrycky, 2006). Buy custom Systems Development Life Cycle essay

Investment Objectives Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Investment Objectives - Assignment Example The selection is as follows: 1) 1-Year Government of Canada Treasury bills The annual yield is 0.53%. It is a zero-coupon bond and thus bears no interest. Investors receive the par value at the maturity date. It cannot be redeemed before maturity and does not have call provisions. It is issued by government of Canada, so it is considered almost risk-free as few imagine the Canadian government will default. But additionally, it has disadvantages which include: †¢ Low return †¢ No periodic interest payments †¢ Low level of liquidity 2) 1-Year Government of Canada marketable bonds The annual yield is 0.57%. Marketable bonds are more liquid than Treasury bonds as they are transferable and can be sold at a reasonable price. 3) 1-Year BMO non-redeemable GIC with semi-annualinterest payment The semi-annually compounded rate is 0.875%. Compared to T-bills, GIC yields a higher return and pays interests semi-annually. Investors can enjoy fixed income stream at each payment date. The principal and interest payments are guaranteed by BMO. 4) 1-Year Nova Scotia Bank non-redeemable GIC with monthly payment The semi-annually compounded rate is 0.775%. Investment into different banks helps dispersing business risk and makes the portfolio even safer. For this reason, purchasing from more than one bank is better than purchasing only from BMO, despite of the lower interest rate offered by Nova Scotia Bank.

Hospital Essay Example for Free

Hospital Essay This report outlines the service delivery process at Al Salam Hospital in Mohandseen focusing on the out-patient clinic along with our evaluation of the service there. We visited the hospital several times and also played the role of patients there. We made reservations and were examined by several doctors (e. g. internal medicine doctor, ear nose and throat, chest and ophthalmology,†¦etc). We also interviewed one of the doctors (cardiology) for the purpose of gaining more information. We made a survey and interviewed some patients to see their evaluation of the service and how it meets their perception. Based on our visits and the interview we made we were able to gain enough information to evaluate the offered service and prepare our report. This report was prepared by Ban Faisal, Mariam Riad, Nancy Mustafa and Mohamed Magdi Al Kady. Process Description at Al Salam Hospital: Al Salam Hospital has 2 buildings, the first one is located on the main street, is the hospital itself, for surgeries, patient hospitalization and it has the blood testing lab and x-rays. The second building which is located on a side street near to the main building is the out-patient clinics. The first step for being examined in one of the hospital’s Out-Patient Clinics, is to select the desired doctor, according to the specialty and available times. The patient can acquire the needed information through the hospital’s website (http://alsalamhospital. org/reservation. asp), through the telephone or through personal inquiry at the hospital. Reservation Details: The patient should then make a reservation. The reservation can be made either through the telephone or by going directly to the clinics’ reception. This depends on the doctor, some doctors allow reservation through the telephone and others only allow reservation to be done directly at the out-patient clinic along with payment. If the patient is making his reservation at the clinic, then he can make it on the same day as the desired time or a few days in advance depending on the availability of appointments. There are several payment categories; the patients who pay normally, the ones who have an insurance that gives them a discount (partial or full) and there are members of unions who usually get a partial discount that varies according to the union. Reservation Process The patients head to the reservation area that is set near the main entrance. There are two windows located one for the normal patients and one for the insured ones. The receptionist begins by asking the patient if this is his/her first visit to the hospital, if it is, the receptionist asks for the patient’s information and a file is created for the patient on the hospital’s computer system. The patient tells the receptionist which doctor and when they want to reserve an appointment. The receptionist then checks on the computer reservation system if there are any available appointments t the desired time and if not he tell the patient the first available appointment. If the desired appointment is available then in the case of the normal patient, the patient pays and gets a receipt. The patient is given a floor number (where the examination room is on) and is asked to head there and is advised to give the receipt to the nurse who is sitting at a desk on this floor. The nurse then takes the receipt and enters the information in a ledger (the day’s list of patients) she has to organize patients and then gives the patient his number (on a first come first served basis). She checks the patient’s ID and goes to the archive to find the patient’s medical record. If this was his first visit, she gets a new blank medical form. The medical records are given to the doctor later. If the patient has an insurance or will get a discount the above process is the same the difference is that at the time of payment, the patient presents his/her insurance card (or union membership card) to the receptionist who then checks if he has a contract and with which insurance company and the amount of discount he will get. The payment is settled according to the discount rate and the receptionist finishes the reservation process and gives the patient three sets of papers to sign along with the normal receipt. The papers are for the insurance company or union (One for the hospital, one for the company and one for the patient). The receptionist keeps one of the signed forms and advises the patients to go to the doctor as previously mentioned. If the doctor cancels his appointments for the day the hospital then calls the patients informing them of this change and gives them another appointment. If the patient has made his appointment in an earlier day, before his appointment he’ll first head to the nurse on the clinic’s floor to give her his papers and take his number. At the time of the appointment, all patients wait in the waiting area for his/her name to be called by the nurse at the desk that already gave him his number on the day’s list of patients. When the doctor arrives the nurse provides him with the list of patients by their order. She also gives him the medical records of all the patients. After the patient’s name is called he goes into the doctor’s office to be examined and describe his/her complaint. The doctor checks the patient’s medical record, if there is any, to get a clearer background about his health. After the examination, the doctor can then give the patient a prescription or orders a few tests to be made, and if needed advises the patient to schedule a follow up consult to check on the progress of the treatment or to check the results of the test. The doctor writes everything down in the medical record (the complaint, diagnosis and recommended treatment), the form is given to the nurse to return to the archive at the end of the day. The number of consults may vary depending on the ability of the doctor to pin point the patient’s illness and the treatments effectiveness. The doctor also has a document where he keeps information about all the patients that he has seen on that day. If tests are required then the hospital offers the lab as a complimentary service to the out-patient clinic. There are two labs one in the outpatient clinic building and one in the hospitals main building. The first step to get the tests done is for the patient to take the papers with the prescribed tests to be registered in the hospitals computer system which is located on the ground floor. The patient will then get a paper which s/he will then take to the nurses sitting at a window located immediately next to the lab, they will take the paper and then tell the patient to go into the lab to be tested. The patient will then be told when his results will be ready to be picked up. The patient can reserve for a consult the same way s/he reserve for a regular examination. Go to Appendices 1 2 for more illustration about the service delivery process at the out-patient clinics. Evaluation and Analysis of Al Salam Hospital’s Service: Service concept and characteristics: Service Concept  The hospital should be able to offer all things a patient can need: out-patient clinics for examinations, emergency rooms, intensive care units, x-rays and labs, .. etc The employees should feel that they are saving lives not just having a normal job. The community should treat the hospital as a crucial facility that they need to help and do what they can to help it operate. The treatment should be as efficient and professional as possible and make the patients feel safe and secure so that they would receive their regular treatments there and recommend it to their families and friends. The design of the hospital takes into consideration the devices needed, emergency rooms, moving large objects as beds in corridors and elevators. The interior design is suited to a hospital and allocation of rooms and floors takes into account the psychology of patients (i. e. departments with a high death rate like intensive care units and cancer patients should be located away from newly born babies and incubators). The hospital is marketed based on the names of the doctors working there and how successful they are in treatment. Target Market Segment:  AL Salam Hospital is a private hospital focusing on average and above average-income families. This market is not usually price-sensitive when it comes to healthcare services. This community needs a professional hygienic hospital which they trust to be able to go to for regular examinations, consultations, tests and emergencies The most important segment is of those of the older generation because they usually get sick more. However, it is important that the hospital builds it ties of trust with the customers throughout their whole life. Distinctive Characteristics of the Service at Al-Salam: Simultaneity: It is the fact that services are created and consumed at the same time at the hospital, the patient enters the room, the doctor examines the patient (the customer) and the patient receives this service simultaneously. For example if a patient comes to the hospital and is diagnosed as having a very low blood pressure the doctor will hook the patient to a salt solution IV which will raise the patient’s blood pressure. Perishability:  The service is perishable which means it cannot be stored. If the patient doesn’t come at the reserved time, a lost opportunity has occurred at that time. An hour without patients during a doctor’s shift can be considered as a lost opportunity and the money that the hospital was supposed to make at that time will never be compensated. Faced with variable demand and time-perishable capacity to provide the service, the managers of the hospital used the following techniques: * smoothed demand by using reservations or appointments Allowed patients to wait. * Accepted more patients than the time capacity. Intangibility: Services are ideas and concepts, not products. The patient experiences the service that the doctor offers; he doesnt touch it or see it. The intangible nature of services presents a problem for customers. When buying a product, the customer is able to see it, feel it, and test its performance before purchase. But for a service, things are di fferent. The doctor tried to overcome this intangibility feature through making the intangible tangible; trying to stop the pain that the customer feels. He did this through examination and then medication. Another way through which the hospital overcame this intangibility feature was the reliance on reputation and word-of-mouth. Al Salam hospital is very well-known by its good reputation and its customers who are really satisfied with the service delivery system. This two features encourages people to guarantee that when they go to this hospital, they will be satisfied even though it’s not a product that they can really see and touch. Heterogeneity: The combination of the intangible nature of services and the customer as a participant in the service delivery system results in a variation of the service being offered from one customer to customer next at the same doctor, lets take a dentist for instance, each customer might have a different kind of pain and thus, needs a unique method of treatment. On a larger scale each customer needs a certain doctor based on his/her illness. Al Salam hospital offers a variety of doctors with different specializations. Also, there is a cafeteria for patients; that provides a variety of food and drinks to satisfy as much patients as possible. There is cooked food, biscuits, cheese, sandwiches†¦etc. And as for the drinks there were many kinds of them such as: juice, tea, coffee†¦etc.

Marriage in Babbit by Sinclair Lewis :: Lewis Babbitt Essays

Marriage in Babbit by Sinclair Lewis In the novel Babbitt, Sinclair Lewis touches upon various issues that characterize American society. Marriage was one of these various issues that Lewis focused on. In the story, George Babbitt was married and his best friend, Paul Riesling, was married. They both seemed uneasy about their marriages and were not pleased with their situations. George always seemed to care less for Myra, "she was as sexless as an anemic nun... no one, save [except] Tinka, was all interested in her or entirely aware that she was alive" (Lewis 7). Paul also truly disliked his wife Zilla, "why I want to kill her", " (i)f I only could [divorce her]! If she'd just give me the chance!" (Lewis 58-59). This lack of feeling for their wives is what Lewis focused on in the rest of the story. Lewis brings about conflict between these two characters and their wives. He brings about the idea of infidelity between the two married couples. The dissatisfaction for their wives leads George and Paul to lust for other women. Lewis is making the point that when men are dissatisfied with their women, they go and try to find others to satisfy their "hunger". George dreamt of a fairy girl that he could run off with and escape from his friends and most of all, his wife (Lewis 2-3). Babbitt also had two affairs on which Lewis indirectly, with class points out. Babbitt and his buddies in Maine, picked up a prostitute in which some devious behavior took place. This behavior "was never known to his family, nor to anyone in Zenith... (i)t was not officially recognized even by himself". His chief affair was with a widow, Tanis Judique. He had even spent the night with her, but he later dumped her to be free. Paul on the other hand only had one affair. He had an affair with a lady named May Arnold that he had been writing, who lived in Chicago. This affair with May was Paul's infidelity to his nagging wife Zilla. By describing these instances of men cheating, Lewis revealed to his readers what was not commonly portrayed about American culture. Chinese history Essay

250 Word Essay One of the most important aspects of ancient Chinese history is the formation of the Silk Road, a trade route which spanned two continents and put China on the map as one of the most important import/export countries in the ancient world. It’s beginnings were smaller in scale as it only encompassed the Chinese Empire itself but it became apparent, after Zhang Qian made contact with Central Asian tribes, that the expansion the trade route would benefit both China and other Asian nations. It continued to expand under the Han dynasty and into Roman times (Beauty).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   One of the most important reasons for its formation as a major trade route was fear of marauding gangs that were eager to obtain the many goods that Chinese merchants filled their caravans with: silk, gemstones, incense, spices, and blue and white porcelain were just some fo the cargo traveled along the Silk Road. The Chinese army was even beefed up in order to protect this special route that helped to keep China’s economy booming. It’s reach expanded throughout China and Asia and eventually commerce was developed between the Roman Empire and China (Newton).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The long-term impact of the Silk Road on Chinese culture and history were that it literally brought a strong economy to China, and brought the goods and customs of other cultures into its borders. The traders, including Zhang Qian in 138 B.C.E., were able to learn economic, military, and geographical information that would help in the roads expansion and with Chinese military success. The Silk Road was so important to the culture of both the Eastern and Western world because during Roman times, even the lower socioeconomic classes depended upon the goods that were imported from China on the Silk Road, and even the religion of Buddhism was spread by way of the Silk Road. Its impact on the world was huge and its impact on Chinese culture even more prominent (Newton). Works Cited â€Å"The Silk Road.† Beauty, the Land of China. It’s amazing how far the caravans had to travel and how large they were. From all accounts the Silk Road was dangerous to those traveling it because of the terrain and yet it was such an integral part of Chinese history and lasted for many years, even expanding. The images of the Silk Road that I could find reminded me the regal images of Chinese royalty, for some reason. It’s as if everyone is perceived as being clothed in silk from head to toe, even the camels! I definitely see how difficult the trip must have been because of the limited means of transportation that the merchants had access to, and how they could easily become victims of a raid for their goods. I also thought that it was interesting that Buddhism itself was virtually spread by way of the Silk Road. I was surprised to see that the Silk Road is being revitalized for tourism purposes and that there are many tour groups that specialize in trips just along the route that used to be traveled by Chinese merchants in ancient times.

Influence Of Charles Robert Darwin - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 824 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2019/08/02 Category People Essay Level High school Tags: Charles Darwin Essay Did you like this example? Darwin’s life was filled with the fascination of science and developed an interest in rocks, fossils animals and plants. With this interest he became close friends with geologist Adams Sedgwick and botanist John Henslow, and that’s what started his voyage.   Darwin’s research created a big controversy with his theories of evolution and natural selection. Darwin is definitely important in the scientific community,   with his knowledge and discoveries, he became known as one of the greatest scientist/philosophers of his time. Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12, 1809, in Shrewsbury, England, the fourth child of Robert and Susannah Darwin. His father was a successful doctor, as well as his grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, who had a great influence on Charless theories. His mother, who was the daughter of the famous pottery maker Josiah Wedgwood, died when Charles was eight. When Charles was young, he entered Shrewsbury School where he was not a very good student. In 1825 Darwin went to Edinburgh University in Scotland to study medicine, but he decided not to pursue that lifestyle because realized he was unable to even watch an operation being performed. In 1828 he entered Christs College, Cambridge, England, to become a minister, he eventually quit that idea as well. He attended John Stevens Henslows course in botany, and started a collection of beetles. Soon after he received his bachelors degree in 1831. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Influence Of Charles Robert Darwin" essay for you Create order Darwin became close friends with two Cambridge professors, geologist Adam Sedgwick and botanist John Henslow. An around-the-world sailing trip on the ship HMS Beagle was being arranged by the Royal Navy. Robert Fitzroy, captain of the Beagle, asked Professor John Henslow to recommend Charles Darwin to tag along as a naturalist for the journey. During that five-year journey, from December 27, 1831 to October 2, 1836,   he visited Brazil, Argentina, Tierra del Fuego, Chile, and the Galapagos islands. Darwin collected many data, and specimens, his greatest discoveries were on the Galà ¡pagos islands. As a result of Darwin’s finding he theorized that new species arise naturally, by a process of evolution, rather than been created by God. Darwin at first believed that the adaptations of species, such as the hinges of the bivalve shell, and the wings and plumes on seeds dispersed by air, were compelling evidence that a god had created each species for its intended place in the economy of nature, but all that changed when he visited the islands. Darwin observed many finches in the Galapagos islands, and he noticed that each finch species had a different type of beak, depending on the food available on its island. With this information he concluded that several birds from one species of finch had probably been blown by storm and separated to each of the islands from one island or from the mainland. When they were seperated, the finches had to adapt to their new environments and food sources, with time they gradually evolved into different species. This is where his theory of ev olution came from. Darwin believed that the world was not ready for his theories, he knew that there would be a lot of protest. What finally caused Darwin to publish his book was a letter from English naturalist Alfred Wallace, who knew that Darwin was interested in evolution. It took Darwin 20 years to finally publish his book, the â€Å"On the Origins of Species†,   on 24 November 1859. Throughout Darwin career, he was awarded many awards such as the Royal Medal in 1853 , which is given to those for the most important contributions to the natural knowledge, The Wallaston Medal in 1859, it is the highest award that is granted award given by the Geological Society of London , and The Copley Medal in 1853, which is given to those for outstanding achievements in the research in any of the branches of science. Towards the ending of his life, Darwin got ill and died at Down House on April 19, 1882, at age 73 due to heart failure. He was buried at Westminster Abbey, London, next to Isaac Newton. The Darwinian theory of evolution caused massive controversy among the outside world, and is still criticized by many religious groups as it contradicts the biblical creation story, and disproves claims about the truth of the Bible. Even with the initial refusal by philosophers, the role of contingency and chance in natural processes is acknowledged in most places. Many philosophers deny the existence of universal laws in biology and suggest that all regularities be stated in probabilistic terms, as nearly all so-called biological laws have exceptions. Philosopher Karl Popper’s theory of falsification would not be able to be applied in these cases. Darwin was not only a great philosopher, and a great scientist, but he was the most influential biologist in history. Darwin’s research was a great influence in the scientific community, along with naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, Darwin laid the cornerstone of thought that gave scientific evidence revealing the possibility that all species of life came from common ancestors by a process of natural selection.

Governments Involvement Of Government Security - 1519 Words

In this day and age the internet has become a big part of our lives. The internet is now a medium that connects millions of different people across the world in the matter of seconds. However, the vast sea of communication and information that comes along with the internet is not a safe place. More and more often we hear of a security breach within a major company or leaked information, from hackers. Many people are questioning whether or not the government should get involved and regulate the internet. However, people don’t realize that the government’s involvement might infringe on our constitutional rights by censorship of information, invading privacy and the possibility of suppressing our freedom of speech People in the United States†¦show more content†¦Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech. In the Google transparency report, a U.S. law enforcement agency asked Google to take down a blog that allegedly defamed a law enforcement official in a personal capacity. The company denied that request. Another separate and different law enforcement group asked Google to take down one thousand four hundred videos on YouTube (Google owns YouTube) because of alleged harassment. Dorothy Chou, a Google analyst states, It s alarming not only because free expression is at risk, but because some of these requests come from countries you might not suspect, Western democracies not typically associated with censorship.† The company did not oblige either of those demands but as the report states, they did fulfil at least with forty- two percent of the removal requests from the United States in 2011. That number compared to the past reports is very low; in 2010, for example, Google said it complied with eighty-seven percent of U.S. requests to take down content. In 2011, Google received six thousand three hundred and twenty one requests for

Inclusive Design Is Not A Synonym For Accessibility

COMPARISIMS TO ACCESSIBLE DESIGNS The terms Inclusive and accessible design are a constant source of confusion. Inclusive design is not a synonym for accessibility neither is it a connotation for the term barrier free design . There are recognised minimum requirements set for designers that when followed let many individuals the opportunity to access programs and activities however they may not support their active and full participation; such standards do not address the sensitivities of sensory and cognitive differences, nor do they address the changes experienced by the human body over time . Designers may use these codes and principles as a yardstick but must go beyond them to achieve an Inclusive design . Inclusive design highlights the importance of meeting the needs of as many users as possible. Designs may be naturally accommodating or adaptable to meet diverse personal requirements; therefore it is imperative that inclusive design be included in all stages of the design process. Inclusive design promotes an integrative approach rather than multiple separate solutions by addressing the needs of an increasing number of people in a single design solution resulting in the inclusive involvement of more people in the activities of society while keeping it cost effective . PRINCIPLES OF INCLUSIVE DESIGN There are five major principles of inclusive design. Placing people at the heart of the design process is the first principle of Inclusive design . Teresa is a teenage girl who mysteriously arrives in the maze a day after Thomas. She tells everyone that everything is about to change in the maze, before slipping into a coma. Alby is the leader of the gladers(The group of boys living in the giant maze), and has authority over much of what goes on in the Glade(the only safe area in the maze). He is hot-headed but experienced. Only a few Gladers, those who have been there the longest, ever see fit to question Albys decisions. After being stung by a Griever(giant slug like monsters armed with weapons and made to guard the maze), Alby undergoes a Changing and becomes convinced that they should not return to the outside world. He wishes to stay in the Glade and even tries to sabotage an escape plan. Alby dies during the escape attempt by throwing himself onto a Griever. Thomas wakes up in a metal box with no memory of who he is. He only remembers his name. Dorrs open overhead and reveal a community of young boys living on a type of farm Surrounded by giant walls The place is called the Glade. Outside the Glade and beyond the walls is a massive Maze. Thomas learns that in the maze are monsters known as Grievers. Thomas meets the leader of the Glade, Alby, who shows Thomas around the maze. The day after Thomas arrives, the first ever girl is sent up into the Glade. Her name is Teresa. Teresa tells everyone that everything is about to change, then succumbs to a coma. Thomas feels a connection to her, but can’t figure out where he knows her from. Thomas then decides that he wants to be a Runner, Gladers who go out into the Maze in an attempt to map it and find a way out. While exploring the Maze, Alby is stung by a Griever. Minho, the leader of runners, attempts to get him back into the Glade before the walls close but they are not going to make it. Thomas sees them, then races out to help and becomes trapped outside in the Maze with them. The Maze is most dangerous at night because that is when the Grivers are most active. Despite being the most experienced, Minho panics and runs away leaving Thomas and Alby. Through wits and skill, Thomas manages to save himself with alby, and survive the night in the Maze. That made Thomas a hero and from that, Minho convinces the other Gladers to allow Thomas to become a Runner trainee. Thomas then begins training under Minho. He learns how the Runners map the Maze, looking for patterns to the maze every day. Thomas also visits Teresa who is still comatose. She begins to communicate with him telepathically and tells Thomas that she has triggered the end. The next day the sun has disappeared from the sky, replaced with a dull gray sky. Thomas realizes that the Glade is a fabricated place and that the sky was never real. Teresa tells Thomas that the Maze is a code before she awakens and forgets everything. The Gladers then realize the entrances to the maze no longer close during the night, allowing the Grievers to roam the Glade during the night the grievers come every night and take a Glader With them. Thomas determines a new way to analyze the map information. With Teresas help, they find a series of letters hidden in the maps, spelling out words. Without knowing what to do with the code, the Gladers began to lose hope, but in an act of desperation, Thomas allows himself to be stung by the Grievers to recover memories through the Changing. Thomas learns the way out of the Maze and makes a plan to escape. Thomas gathers the Gladers and leads them into the Maze where they face off against a small army of Grievers. About half of the Gladers die in the fight but Thomas and Teresa make their way down the hole in the Cliff and are able to punch in the code and shut down the Maze. Over the past few weeks I read Maze Runner by James Dashner and copyrighted in 2009 and thought it was amazing. It was one of the best books I’ve read because of the way the plot was set up. i truly enjoyed the story because of the constant feeling of danger throughout the book. It’s interesting that Thomas, the leader, worked with Teresa and the creators to make the very maze he is trying to escape from. As I read the end of this book I kept thinking about the phrase,†Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong† and how all the Gladers thought the answer was the maze but it was actually something entirely different. From the book, I learned that sometimes, the answer to a problem isn’t always the absolute right or wrong answer, just better or worse.

Zombie Paper free essay sample

One of the topics we discussed this past semester that interested me the most was the role of zombies in entertainment. Movies, television shows, and the internet have been overflowing with anything zombie related since the zombie craze began. Although there are many metaphors for the zombie in all three of these resources my favorite is the issue of population. In nearly all depictions and discussions of zombies they always multiply in a dramatic rate because they infect those who they feast on. As a result, society becomes overpopulated and society goes into a state of panic and hysteria. Twenty years ago the United States had a little fewer than 250 million people and now in 2010 we are pushing to 310 million. With so many issues of job shortages and companies outsourcing jobs to increase their profit margin, this is an issue that many Americans are currently dealing with. According to the U. We will write a custom essay sample on Zombie Paper or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page S. Bureau Labor of Statistics, currently there is a 9. 6% unemployment rate. It may not seem so low, but a mere 10 years ago it was barely a 4% unemployment rate. That is more than double the amount of unemployed in a decade. Overconsumption is another issue that is always portrayed in various zombie films. One of the more recent films that shows this is Dawn of the Dead. Basically, zombies have taken over the city and a group of people were able to run for safety. The place of refuge is in the mall and somehow the zombies all show up to the mall. One of the characters tries to explain it may be â€Å"instinct. † As the movie progresses, the people in the mall begin to consume everything around them. It was really amazing to watch this film with that sense of perspective.I realized that we all consume so much and are willing to kill sometimes for that particular item of interest. Unfortunately, close to where I am from a Walmart employee was killed when a group of shoppers during Black Friday broke down the doors and trampled him to death. We are all driven by consumption and sometimes we do not see that limit until someone is hurt or killed. This is one of the most important issues facing our society today. With all the consumption we do of products that are not 100% necessary, there are millions around the world living in omplete poverty. Food for them is not a luxury like it is for us. They do not have the options to choose what they eat, but to eat what they find or given to them. I truly feel as we consume more and more we lose a little bit of our humanity inside of us. That is why I feel zombies are the perfect metaphor for that; because they have no humanity left. Since the beginning of the human race, we have advanced in everything we have ever done. Science, medicine, and architecture are just a few to name. One of things we have gotten better at is also destroying ourselves. Weapons have advanced from a simply knife made out of stone to biological warfare and atomic bombs. Now there are weapons being created which are the size of a few molecules and can kill you in a matter of seconds. Resident Evil is a movie that depicts the issue of the creation of bioweapons and what it can do. Although the idea that everyone will turn into zombies and feed on the living isn’t very realistic, the core of the plot is what’s important. A company has genetically engineered a virus that will be used as a weapon. The virus was then mishandled and released into the atmosphere.Eventually everything we do comes back to us in one way or another. Billions upon billions is poured into spending on creating new weapons while over a billion people in the world do not have access to clean water. We have the power to create something that is not visible to the naked eye and can kill you in a matter of seconds, yet we can’t give everyone in the world access to clean water. Eventually, our choices will come back to bite us. The issue of creating more weapons is just the beginning of many things we need to change before it is too late.Land of the Dead was one of the movies we saw this past semester that raised a concern I did not have before. Zombies are shown as hideous and very stupid. They have no ability to speak and are mostly composed of the lower class. A perfect example is the main zombie character in Land of the Dead is a gas station attendant. This movie dealt very close to the social struggle between the upper class and everyone else. The upper class surrounds themselves in luxurious penthouses and indulge in the finest cuisines while the people outside have to defend themselves against the zombie infestation.I really liked that because I live in an area which I immediately thought of when I saw the movie. Seagate is the name of it and it is a gated community with gigantic houses while the only things surrounding this gated community are cramped apartments of families and a very high crime rate. One of the final topics we discussed in class that I really enjoyed researching was the zombie representing the loss of individuality. A perfect example of a movie where this is depicted is Shaun of the Dead. Although Shaun and his friends are actually not zombies we see them doing the same thing on a daily basis. There is nothing special or unique about any of them. The same thing goes for zombies. They are usually in masses and move in similar movement and have no actual identity. I think this is a very important metaphor because so many of us have become these â€Å"zombie† robots. We get up, shower, go to class, eat, go to more class, go eat, and go to sleep. Then on the weekends everyone goes to the bars and drinks the night away. There is nothing special or unique about any of those things. Our lives have become simple routines that are predetermined.Although Shaun of the Dead may have been a zombie comedy, the idea of individuality should not be taken so lightly. If we lose that, then we lose what defines us and then we truly all have become zombies. Zombies have become so much more than just something that walks around and feasts on the living. They have become subliminal messages reminding the viewers about the current and past issues that plague today’s society. The choice is left up to us whether we choose to see the message, and if so take some sort of action.
